Jim on the Issues


2nd Amendment
– Jim is the only active sportsman in the 18th District Congressional race. He is a gun owner, a deer and bird hunter and a strong supporter of gun owners’ rights.

Abortion – Jim is a Pro-Life candidate and will deliver a 100% Pro-Life voting record in Congress.

Agriculture – In addition to utilizing American agricultural products as energy sources and supporting the abolishment of the death tax, Jim supports finding new world markets for our commodities. With his family farm upbringing, Jim’s Midwestern values of hard work and integrity are consistent with our values.

Economic Development/Jobs – With a 26-year background in economic development and job creation, Jim knows what it takes to create good-paying jobs, foster business growth and stimulate entrepreneurial innovation. Jim will support tax policies that encourage job growth and economic development, improved broadband/Internet infrastructure to help smaller communities keep pace and grow in the global marketplace and will work to keep the 18th District a good place to earn a living, raise a family, and provide future job opportunities for our children and grandchildren.

Education – Jim is supportive of keeping local control in our schools. It is important that the individuals who make decisions regarding our Central Illinois students are those individuals who know our children by name.

Energy – Jim supports increased development and delivery of alternative energy sources like ethanol, biodiesel and wind power. Jim believes energy independence is an important component in our national security strategy.

Healthcare – Jim will work to make and keep available to all Americans the most advanced and accessible private healthcare system in the world. Jim supports a market-based approach to health care and opposes government solutions like ‘Hillary-Care.’ 

Immigration – Jim opposes amnesty programs for illegal immigrants. He will advocate for securing U.S. borders and enforcing immigration policies.

Legal Reform – Jim is an advocate for legal reform; he supports measures to prohibit venue shopping by trial lawyers and stopping abusive, frivolous lawsuits.

Quality of Life/Rural Revitalization – Jim supports measures to improve and maintain the quality of life that we enjoy in rural Central Illinois. Through conservation measures for outdoor enthusiasts to infrastructure systems for high speed Internet access to all, Jim understands that the Midwestern rural lifestyle is important to us, and it must improve to rival other regions.

Serving the Public – Jim commits to establishing a public service oriented office system around the 18th District where people come first. Like his predecessors did, he will make certain that individuals who seek a voice in Washington to help them solve problems with the Federal Government are courteously received and professionally served.

Social Security – Jim understands the importance of the Social Security system and will work to make certain that it remains viable for generations.

Taxes – Jim will vote against tax increases and work to abolish unfair tax burdens like the inheritance tax. Also, Jim will work to keep American business prospering and our economy strong through minimal tax burdens on the business sector, especially small businesses.

Terrorism – Jim supports American policies fighting Terrorism worldwide and weeding out terrorist networks at home and abroad.

War in Iraq – Jim is supportive of American troops at home and abroad. He is supportive of measures to protect U.S. troops in Iraq, assist that country in securing its people from insurgent forces and rebuilding the nation into one of a free people.

Veterans Issues – Jim is committed to keeping our promises to those Americans who served this country at war time and at peace time.
